Update on the Yahoo “Buzz-effect”
May 16, 2008
So last week I wrote a post about how Yahoo! Buzz, the social news service from Yahoo!, is sending tons of engaged traffic to publishers. Well earlier this week the latest stats came out and I thought I’d share the results with you.
Turns out, Buzz is kicking butt and taking names. The comScore report for April has Yahoo! Buzz for the first time doing more traffic than Digg - Buzz got almost 7 million U.S. unique visitors in April, a 74% growth over March. Here’s a graph comparing the two:

I don’t really view this as terrible news for Digg, but instead see it more as a variable for the law of large numbers that comes from being in the Yahoo! family. What this does tell me is that not only publishers are gaining from Yahoo! Buzz, but users are really starting to as well. I think this speaks volumes to social media becoming more mainstream and will only increase as people see more and more benefits of getting their news primarily through their friends and connections.
